How to Install Mods on Your Eco Server

ECO2 min readUpdated Oct 22, 2026

Eco mods are server-side: you put them on the server, restart, and players join without installing anything. That makes modding Eco one of the easier ones, as long as the mod matches your Eco version.

Back Up First

Stop the Server

  • On the Console page press Stop and wait until the status reads offline. Adding files to a running server gets you a half loaded mod on the next restart.

Upload the Mod

  • Open Files in the left menu and go to the Mods folder.
  • Most mods go into Mods/UserCode: upload the mod's folder, or its .cs files, there. Follow the structure the mod author gives; it is their mod that decides where its files go.
  • Use the Upload button or drag the files in. For a large mod FTP is easier.

Start and Watch the Console

  • Press Start and read the console. Eco compiles the mods on start, and a mod with an error names its file and line in the console.
  • When the world has loaded, the mod's items, recipes or commands are available to every player.

Good to Know

  • Version matters. Mods are built against an Eco version. After an Eco update a mod may fail to compile until its author updates it; remove it from Mods/UserCode to get the server starting again.
  • Mods/__core__ is Eco itself. Do not change those files; an update overwrites them.
  • Players install nothing. Everything runs on the server and is sent to the clients when they join. A client-side mod for Eco is rare.
  • Mods are unsupported. We keep the server running, but we cannot debug a specific mod. If the server misbehaves, removing the mods is always the first test.

Finished

Your mods load and the server boots cleanly. Take another backup now that it works, so you have a known good copy to return to after the next Eco patch.
