How to Make Yourself Admin on Your DayZ Server

A DayZ admin logs in from the in-game chat with a password, and from then on has the server commands. The password is a setting in the panel, so making yourself admin is two steps: set the password, log in with it.

1Set the Admin Password

• Log in to your game panel and click your DayZ server.
• Open Game Settings in the left menu.
• Fill in Admin Password. Pick something long; anyone who knows it can lock and shut down the server.
• Save and restart the server. DayZ reads the password on start.

2Log In From the Game

• Join the server and open the chat.
• Type #login yourpassword and press Enter. The chat confirms that you are logged in.
• Log out again with #logout. You are logged out automatically when you disconnect.

3The Admin Commands

Once logged in, these work from the chat:

• #kick name kicks a player by name or player id.
• #lock and #unlock close and reopen the server for new connections, useful during an event or a restart.
• #shutdown stops the server process. The Restart button on the Console page of the panel does the same with less surprise.

Good to Know

• The Players page does most of this without logging in. It lists who is online and kicks players over RCon, using the RCon Password from Game Settings. Change that password too; the default is the same on every new server.
• RCon tools such as BattleMetrics or CFTools connect with the RCon password and the RCon port, which is the game port plus three. Keep the password private for the same reason as the admin password.
• Admins are not immune. Logging in gives you commands, not god mode. For spawning items or teleporting you need a server-side admin tool mod, installed like any other mod.
