How to manage your files via FTP using WinSCP

Control panel1 min readUpdated Aug 28, 2026

SFTP is the fastest way to move a lot of files to or from your server. On Windows, WinSCP is a great client, and the game panel can launch it for you with the connection already filled in.

Download and Install WinSCP

  • If you have not installed WinSCP yet, download it here and complete the installation.

Launch the Connection

  • In the game panel, open your server and click FTP Details under CONFIGURATION.
  • The Connection details card shows your Server address, Username and Password. These SFTP credentials are separate from your game panel login.
  • Press Open in SFTP client: WinSCP opens with the server address and username already filled in. If nothing happens, the panel shows download links for WinSCP, FileZilla and Cyberduck.

Accept the Security Warning

  • The first time you connect, WinSCP shows a security warning about an unknown server host key. Press Yes to trust it.

Enter Your Password

  • WinSCP asks for your password. Copy it from the Password field on the same FTP Details page (press the eye icon to reveal it, or use the copy button).
  • Prefer a password you can remember? Set your own under Change password on that page; it takes effect immediately.

Manage Your Files

Once connected, your server files appear on the right side of the WinSCP window.

  • Upload: drag files or folders into the right side.
  • Download: drag them to the left side (your computer).
  • Edit: right-click a file and choose Edit; WinSCP uploads it again when you save.

Finished

You can now manage your server files over SFTP. For quick edits the built-in file manager is often the faster choice.
